New Deere Center Boosts Jefferson City Economy →

When Ryan Companies US Inc. and the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce announced this past April that Jefferson County was the site selected for a John Deere regional distribution center, it was a win/win proposition for all. In what will be a boost to the local economy, area workers are readying their resumes for work in the new facility. Besides creating more than 100 jobs, the addition of John Deere in the community is expected to add $15 million to the tax base, and spur additional area development while not significantly impacting county services. Jefferson County was selected due to its business proactive approach and positive attitude. Deere Tractor-Scraper Combo Breaks New Ground →

After years of experience in the earthmoving industry, Barrie Foster, owner of BF Foster Company Inc., found he could save time and money on his jobs by using a tractor and pull-type scraper combination. Foster owns two 9400 four-wheel drive John Deere tractors and four 1812C carry-all pull-type scrapers, along with several other pieces of earthmoving equipment. Department of Transportation engineers decided Cut 4 on a U.S. 221 four-laning project in western North Carolina wasn’t as laid back as they would like, so a Vecellio & Grogan (V&G) construction crew redesigned how it would slice away the mountainside. V&G workers moved farther west at the peak of the ridge. They started a cut that lets a slope descend at a more stable 1.25-to-1 ratio toward the highway 250 ft.  Click for more...

From Construction Equipment Guide... With the help of a new tractor-scraper combination, Ken Beer & Sons of Perkasie, PA, is making fast work of a mid-size excavating and grading job combination. In Hilltown, PA, Beer & Sons is moving approximately 100,000 cu. yd. (76,456 cu m) of dirt for a new 45-unit luxury home subdivision, Hilltown Chase, being built by the Elliott Building Group, Newtown, PA. Looking at a map of North Carolina, the 13-mile (21 km) stretch of NC 87 angling southeast from Interstate 95 would not seem to warrant four-laning. At its southern end, the roadway reaches nothing more than the outskirts of the small town of Tar Heel. The destination hardly seems worth $20.5 million that the NC Department of Transportation is spending on upgrading the highway.
