J&J Truck Bodies & Trailers, a division of Somerset Welding and Steel Inc., and a manufacturer of dump bodies and trailers, recently announced the addition of the DynaHauler/LWC to its product line. The lighter weight dump truck body is built with Hardox steel and has no cross members. It allows operators to haul more payload without compromising the structural integrity of the truck. The dump body is installed on an oak cushion and features newly designed formed bottom rails. Crews Work on First Section of WV 9 Replacement Job →

Crews in West Virginia are currently working on the first section of a $110-million project that will replace WV 9 with a new four-lane highway that will run from Charles Town to the Virginia line. The current project runs from U.S. 340 and intersects with Cattail Road, a distance of approximately 1.25 mi. (2 km). The contract includes two separate overpass bridges for 340 and all on/off ramps. Department of Transportation engineers decided Cut 4 on a U.S. 221 four-laning project in western North Carolina wasn’t as laid back as they would like, so a Vecellio & Grogan (V&G) construction crew redesigned how it would slice away the mountainside. V&G workers moved farther west at the peak of the ridge. They started a cut that lets a slope descend at a more stable 1.25-to-1 ratio toward the highway 250 ft. Click for more...

Construction equipment retailer RDO Equipment Co. said it expects to incur a fiscal fourth-quarter loss from operations of about $6.5 million and a one-time charges of about $7.5 million. The company said the losses reflect a decrease in demand and inventory value for trucks and construction equipment and said it had an agreement to sell its truck operations. The six-acre parking lot was made using roller compacted concrete, a process which utilizes asphalt paving machines and dump trucks instead of ready-mix trucks and finishing crews. From Construction Equipment Guide... The Moxy MT36 demo truck was recently hauled up to Goodall and Sons Tractor, Westboro, MA, because Carl Goodall, owner, wanted to see how the truck ran. John McCourt Construction Co, a large company in the Boston area, agreed to demo the truck. McCourt was capping a large landfill in Quincy and turning it into a golf course. The MT36, working along with four Volvo A35Cs, was being loaded by a Hitachi EX550, and then hauled uphill about one-half mile. Click for more...
