Crews Race to Complete Concord Dragstrip for September Event →

From Construction Equipment Guide... Close to 300 people are working six days a week to build a state-of-art drag strip adjacent to Lowe’s Motor Speedway (LMS) in Concord, N.C. Plans call for the quarter-mile track to be open in time for the Sept. 11 to 14 National Hot Road Association (NHRA) Carolinas Nationals event, an inaugural event on the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series. The racetrack, just northeast of Charlotte, is currently being called The Dragway at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, but a new name will be announced soon as part of a fan contest.  Click for more...


Fuel/Lube Service Truck Assists in Coal Mine Operations →

From Construction Equipment Guide... Elliott Machine Works recently produced mobile fuel/lube service trucks for a coal mine operation in North Dakota. A coal company official said the company chose to pair Cat 730 articulated trucks with Elliott Machine Works’ combination fuel and lube units for the rough terrain and volume of equipment that need to be serviced. The coal mine had three drag lines and kept 10 to 20 300-ton (272 t) Kress Haul trucks racing along a 7-mi.  Click for more...

VDOT Approves Interstate 81 Truck Climbing Lane in Rockbridge Co. →

Major design features for truck climbing lanes on Interstate 81 in Rockbridge County have been approved by Virginia Department of Transportation Chief Engineer Malcolm T. Kerley. The approval was given on March 13. VDOT held a design public hearing concerning a truck climbing lane proposed for northbound Interstate 81 in Rockbridge County on Nov. 8. Oshkosh Corp. Takes Out ’Truck’ From Its Name →

From Construction Equipment Guide... APPLETON, Wis. (AP) Oshkosh Truck Corp. has dropped the ’Truck’ from its name. The manufacturer of specialty emergency, military and other vehicles, said shareholders approved a proposal to rename the company Oshkosh Corp. at its annual meeting on Feb. 5 in Appleton. The change takes effect immediately. The board of directors had recommended that shareholders approve the measure. The Oshkosh-based company said in a December note to shareholders that the current name didn’t reflect the breadth of its product lines and it didn’t want to reference any specific product in its name.  Click for more...

Caterpillar Diesel Off-Highway Machines Earns Calif. Approval →

The Caterpillar Diesel Particulate Filter System for off-highway machines has earned Level 3 conditional verification from the California Environmental Protection Agency Air Resources Board. The verification formally recognizes the Caterpillar passive filter system as effective and reliable in achieving at least an 85 percent reduction in particulate matter exhaust emissions. Kenworth Branch Hosts Truck Show in Jacksonville →

More than 600 guests attended the event at the facility, located on Pickettville Road in Jacksonville, Fla. They were greeted by approximately 50 vendors showing off their latest offerings and a big lunch provided by The Pig BBQ.
