TruckPlanet Moves to Weekly Online Auction Schedule →

TruckPlanet, an online marketplace for buying and selling used commercial trucks, adopted a weekly auction format starting with the Aug. 15 featured auction. TruckPlanet will now host over-the-road truck auctions every Thursday at 8 a.m. Pacific Time. Since its launch, TruckPlanet has sold more than 1,700 trucks and trailers — including day cabs, sleeper cabs, cargo trucks, refrigerated trucks, trailers and more — generating sales exceeding $20 million.  Click for more...

From Construction Equipment Guide... America’s fallen or missing military personnel were honored by employees of Mack Trucks during the Memorial Day weekend Rolling Thunder — Ride for Freedom rally. Employees from the Mack Customer Center and Macungie Assembly Operations, both located in Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley, caravanned to Hagerstown, Md., for a memorial ceremony at the company’s powertrain plant. NCCCO Launches Service Truck Crane Operator Program →

The National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) made available a new CCO certification program for service truck crane operators. Service truck cranes are widely used for propane delivery, mining and heavy equipment assembly, repair and service, as well as by local municipalities’ service workers. Although relatively small, these cranes are still engaged in lifting operations covered by OSHA 1926 Subpart CC, which requires operators to be certified or qualified if they are involved with material delivery at construction sites.  Click for more...

NTEA Work Truck Show Showcases Latest Products and Equipment →

The National Truck Equipment Association (NTEA) held its 2013 Work Truck Show in conjunction with the 49th Annual NTEA Convention March 6 to 8 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis. The event included 500,000 sq. ft. of exhibit space showcasing the latest vocational trucks, equipment and products displayed by more than 550 exhibitors. Much-Needed Truck Climbing Lanes Under Way on SR 20 →

From Construction Equipment Guide... Two sections of truck climbing lanes are currently being constructed along State Route 20 in Georgia. The project begins approximately 600 ft. (182 m) west of Union Hill Road/CR 762 at mile post 15.96 and ends 1,500 ft. (457 m) east of Greenwood Court/CR 1968 at mile post 22.40. The project was awarded by the Georgia Department of Transportation to C. W. Matthews Contracting Co., Marietta, Ga., for a full dollar amount of $7,608,028.07.  Click for more...

Ohio Attorney General DeWine Issues Opinion on Truck Weights →

From Construction Equipment Guide... Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine has issued an opinion on the 7.5 percent weight tolerance for vehicles hauling aggregate on Ohio’s public highways and streets. In part it states:“The term ’surface mining truck,’ as used in R.C. 5577.043(A)(1), means a ’vehicle’ as defined in R.C. 4501.01(A), used to haul minerals upon Ohio’s improved public highways and streets.”This definition is important as several local law enforcement agencies had claimed that a “surface mining truck” was a larger truck that hauled aggregate within a plant property such as an articulated haul truck or a 100 ton (91 t) ore truck.  Click for more...


Volvo Truck to Pair with China’s Dongfeng →

STOCKHOLM (AP) - Swedish truck maker AB Volvo says it will acquire a 45 percent stake in a new heavy-truck unit of China’s Dongfeng Motor Group Co. for a total amount of 5.6 billion yuan ($890 million)Volvo CEO Olof Persson says the move to buy the stake in Dongfeng Commercial Vehicles was part of "a clear strategy" to become the world’s largest maker of heavy-duty trucks. He said Saturday completion is expected within a year, adding it will increase Volvo’s net debt by approximately 6 billion kronor ($926 million).  Click for more...


’Dump Hunger’ Campaign to Fill Five Dump Trucks With Food →

When the calendar turns to January, donations to local food banks drop dramatically — a 36 percent decrease on average in Idaho alone. In 2008, the Dump Hunger campaign planned to fill one dump truck with 75,000 lbs. of food and support local food banks when donations are needed most. Sixers, Ransome CAT Use Dump Truck to Deliver Toys →

The Philadelphia 76ers and Ransome CAT, the official truck provider of the Sixers Toy Drive, joined forces to collect toys for the hundreds of children affected by Hurricane Sandy. A Ransome CAT dump truck delivered the toys to the Salvation Army of Atlantic City. Fans in attendance at the Sixers’ home game against the Atlanta Hawks on Dec. 21 were asked to bring new, unwrapped toys to support the Toy Drive, in exchange for a voucher for a postgame autograph session with guards Evan Turner or Nick Young.  Click for more...
