Visitors to the Manitowoc Cranes booth at ConExpo 2014 will be able to see firsthand a new era of boom truck innovation. Kenworth Truck Company will make Bendix ADB22X front air disc brakes standard on Kenworth Class 8 tractors and trucks. The Bendix ADB22X air disc brakes have a two-pin floating caliper design that provides a more stringent overall dimension accuracy and consistent force distribution. According to Bendix, the ADB22X design also significantly reduces brake fade with no degradation of stopping power. Cat Lift Trucks is encouraging qualifying high school seniors to apply for its $5,000 scholarship before the deadline of 5 p.m. on Jan. 17, 2014. The company announced in October that it is continuing a decade-long tradition of awarding one deserving Houston-area high school student with a scholarship toward higher education pursuits in Texas. Terex Agrees to Sell Truck Business To Volvo for $160 Million →

Terex Corporation has announced that it has agreed to sell its truck business to Volvo Construction Equipment for cash proceeds of approximately $160 million. The truck business manufactures and sells off-highway rigid and articulated haul trucks. Included in the transaction is the manufacturing facility in Motherwell, Scotland. The sale, which is subject to government regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions, is targeted to close in the first half of 2014.  Click for more...

The Cat 770G and 772G off-highway trucks have been designed with major advancements in emissions control technology, transmission and traction control systems; frame, drive train, and cooling system enhancements; added operator amenities; and serviceability improvements. Many of the features introduced on larger Cat G Series trucks are being incorporated on the new 770G and 772G models. With nominal rated payload capacities of 40 and 52 tons (36.3 and 47.1 t), respectively, the new trucks use Cat C15 (770G) and C18 (772G) engines, with net power ratings of 477 (770G) and 550 (772G) hp (356 and 410 kW).  Click for more...


$1.5B Deal Struck to Replace Goethals Bridge →

NEW YORK (AP) A deal has been finalized to pay for a $1.5 billion replacement for the Goethals Bridge between Elizabeth, N.J., and Staten Island, N.Y. It’s a public-private deal in which a group of developers will make equity contributions and receive payments over 35 years. The amount of the payments depends on the performance of the contractors hired by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which owns the bridge.  Click for more...

Condoleezza Rice, the 66th secretary of state of the United States, has been named keynote speaker of The Work Truck Show 2014. Her address is part of the President’s Breakfast and NTEA Annual Meeting on March 6. The Work Truck Show 2014 is held March 5 to 7, at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, Ind. Educational programming, including the Green Truck Summit, begins March 4. The Komatsu HM400-3 articulated truck is powered by a Komatsu SAA6D140E-6 engine with a net horsepower of 469 hp (350 kW) and is EPA Tier IV Interim and EU Stage 3B emissions certified. Komatsu built on its Tier III engine platform to design a more environmentally friendly engine that increases power while decreasing fuel consumption, according to the manufacturer.
