Barrier Systems Inc. (BSI), a subsidiary of Lindsay Corporation, has acquired the truck mounted and trailer mounted attenuator (TMA) technology from Albert W. Unrath Inc. and Traffic Maintenance Attenuators Inc. of Hatfield, Pa. This acquisition provides additional product depth to complement the full line of moveable barriers, steel specialty barriers, crash cushions and barrier terminal products offered by BSI and Snoline, s.p.a., (a Lindsay Corporation Company in Europe) through their worldwide distribution systems.

The deterioration of the worldwide highway infrastructure system requires that significant resources be applied to repair / rebuild the system to support the development, growth and survival of economic societies. This refurbishment requires motorists to be exposed to hazardous highway work zones, slow moving or stationary work vehicles and exposure of highway workers to traffic on congested roadways.

To help protect highway workers, positive barriers and shadow vehicles are used to shield motorists from highway workers. Truck mounted and trailer mounted attenuators are utilized to protect errant motorists from impacting slow moving or stationary shadow vehicles, thus improving safety for both the motorist, the shadow vehicle operator and shielded highway workers.

The U-MAD attenuator systems are designed to attach to shadow vehicles and have been fully tested and accepted in accordance with the National Cooperative Highway Research Program Report 350.

“Barrier Systems and Snoline are very pleased to offer the U-MAD TMA product lines into the highway work zone safety markets. These markets have been looking for systems that offer low life-cycle costs, high levels of adaptability, reduced inventory requirements and ease of applicability to most shadow vehicles,” said Owen Denman, president and CEO, Barrier Systems Inc.

“These systems provide a truly superior alternative to current systems in use and broaden the overall product offering of BSI and Snoline through their distribution systems.
