As more and more operations recognize and reap the economic and environmental rewards from adopting sustainable business practices, washing experts CDE has announced a panel discussion at AGG1 to showcase how sustainable thinking can be a market differentiator and deliver competitive advantage in a time when natural reserves deplete and the regulatory environment evolves.
Today, CDE washing solutions power the cleanup of more than 30 million tons of various construction and demolition (C&D) waste and contaminated soils around the world every year.
It's this international perspective that will be the basis for a panel discussion on the topic of sustainable sand and aggregate production at AGG1 later this month (March).
Chaired by CDE business development manager Joseph Teahl, the transatlantic panel features an expert line-up of materials producers from the United States and United Kingdom alongside industry insiders and association partners.
Speakers include Scott Brewster, managing director of Brewster Brothers, which recently expanded its C&D waste recycling capacity to 300,000 tons annually following the commissioning of a new CDE wash plant; Hadi Rashidi, engineering and technical policy director at the NSSGA; Andrew Paluszkiewicz, managing partner and director of operations at Eco Materials LLC, whose new CDE wash plant will be officially unveiled on April 17, 2025, as part of an exclusive open house event; and Guy Woodford, editor of Aggregates Business at Prime Global Publishing.
"We want to shift the perspective away from the idea that adopting more sustainable practices equates to concessions," said Teahl. "To the contrary, sustainable thinking can deliver competitive advantage. Material reserves continue to deplete, yet demand doesn't abate, and the regulatory environment will continue to evolve. There are significant gains to be made for the businesses that make the transition. We want to shine a spotlight on them, to showcase the possibilities and champion a better way forward that advocates for recycled materials. We hope this panel will help put into perspective the challenges facing the US market while demonstrating how others are successfully producing high-quality, in-spec construction products from waste streams."
The panel will discuss and share proven strategies and innovations from global markets that have made significant strides in decarbonization, the benefits of implementing sustainable practices, Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and its impact on the industry, and trends from a global perspective and what the future holds.
CDE said attendees will gain invaluable knowledge on how to go about implementing effective carbon reduction measures in their processing operations and how to overcome misconceptions to leverage recycled construction materials that can meet growing demand sustainably.
